Field Stone Fruit Wines' premium products have been developed by Dominic Rivard, internationally-renowned and award-winning winemaster.

Dominic Rivard was born in theĀ Gaspe Peninsula in the province of Quebec, Canada in 1971 and comes from a heritage of farmers and winemakers whose ancestry can be traced to the Burgundy region of France.

Dominic has been passionately interested in wine making since the age of 17 when he started making wine from fruits, dandelions, concord grapes and rhubarb. At age 19, he studied with the Ontario Guild of Sommeliers in Ottawa and became a qualified sommelier. He has studied microbiology and winemaking through courses at UC Davis in California. In 1994, he moved to British Columbia and worked in a wine laboratory performing various wine and beer analysis for the company's product development programs.

The following year Dominic undertook and passed the Wine and Spirit Education Trust Diploma, a UK-based wine education organization, a prerequisite for the prestigious Master of Wine certification. During 1995 Dominic undertook and passed advanced mathematics, bioChemistry and chemistry courses at the British Columbia Institute of Technology.

In 1996 Dominic helped set up a joint-venture winery in Shandong Province, China. That same year, he negotiated an agreement with the largest winery equipment distributor in North America (Associated Winery Systems Inc.) to sell and service processing equipment to the wineries of Western Canada and Washington State.

In 1997, Dominic was instrumental in setting up Columbia Valley Classics Winery, which is B.C.'s first fruit winery. He produced a large array of fruit and grape wines with wide national and international interest. Along with the winemaking, Dominic also helped set-up a distribution system throughout Canada and parts of Asia.

In wine competitions, Dominic won numerous awards and medals in national and international wine competitions. He is also a founding director of the Fruit Wines of Canada Association, which is involved in promoting fruit wines and its industry throughout Canada.

Dominic has also been involved in numerous winemaking projects for other Canadian fruit wineries in BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario. He has also been involved in winemaking projects in the USA, Taiwan andĀ Thailand, as well as China. He has been a speaker on the subject of winemaking at various symposiums throughout Canada and other parts of the world.

Dominic was involved with the Fort Wine Company in the fall of 2000 where he developed high-quality wines and took aim at making the winery one of the largest and awarded fruit-only wineries in Canada.

He has been involved in a large-scale wine production, co-packing and distributing projects in China and is active in wine exportation in countries such as Japan, South Korea and Taiwan.

Dominic is presently the winemaker of Field Stone Fruit Wines at Strathmore, Alberta where unique high-end fruit wines are developed and marketed. Great things are happening at Field Stone and Winemaker Dominic Rivard is happy to be involved!
